Qualifications

Description

Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) is currently recruiting Anesthesiologists to the city of Brandon. Brandon Regional Health Centre is the region’s primary referral centre, serving a population in excess of 150,000 residents. The over 300 bed Regional Health Centre has 48 Medical Beds, 56 Surgical Beds, 9 Adult Intensive Care Beds, 20 Obstetrical Beds, 6 Operating Rooms and 1 Minor Surgery Procedure Room. Diagnostic Services include radiology, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and nuclear medicine. Successful applicants will provide anesthetic care throughout the surgical and obstetric programs, including supervision and teaching of students and residents. The successful applicants will also be required to participate in an on-call rota of approximately 1 in 4.

Successful Applicants will be team players, able to interact effectively with patients, colleagues, staff and management, and function well in a high volume environment with a commitment to provision of high quality patient and family centered care.

Brandon is a thriving city with a population of over 48,000, located 200 km west of Winnipeg on the TransCanada Highway. It is large enough to supply all the retail, medical, educational and cultural needs on a daily basis and small enough to avoid high costs of living and long commutes to the workplace. Brandon University has a significant reputation in music, general arts and science programs. Assiniboine Community College provides a wide range of education options. The Brandon Regional Health Centre (BRHC) is accepting applications for these positions in the Emergency Department:

  • Permanent 1.0 EFT
  • Term 0.75 EFT
  • Term 0.5 EFT

Start date for full time is immediate or can be negotiated. The term positions are subject to expiry with 24 hours’ notice of return of the current incumbents.

The Brandon Regional Health Centre (BRHC) is accepting applications for a 0.50 & a 0.75 EFT term positions in the Emergency Department. Physicians to start January 1, 2023 in an indefinite term position for maternity leave (expiry subject to 24 hours’ notice of return of the current incumbents). The 308-bed Brandon Regional Health Centre is a regional referral centre for Southwestern Manitoba and receives about 27,000 emergency visits per year with greater than 60% being CTAS 1-3. BRHC is a teaching hospital with residency programs for Family Medicine, Anesthesia, and EM residents, with opportunities for teaching and appointment with the University of Manitoba.

Required Qualifications

Remuneration/Hours

  • A 1.0 EFT permanent position consists of 1400 hours per year
  • A 0.75 EFT position consists of 1050 hours per year and ends on August 31, 2023
  • A 0.50 EFT position consists of 700 hours per year and ends on April 1, 2023 but may extend longer

Description:

Prairie Mountain Health is currently seeking  2 family physician(s) or internists to join the Hospitalist group at Brandon Regional Health Centre. Applicants are encouraged to apply for either a full time position or part time position. Please indicate on your cover letter what EFT you are interested in working. A full time position is a 1:2 rotation (26 weeks per year) and a part time position is a 1:4 rotation (13 weeks per year). The work week is Monday through to Sunday, on site from 0800 – 1700 hours. The on-call responsibility is a minimum average of 3 nights per week of work.

The Brandon Regional Health Centre has 300+ beds with a moderate-volume ER and a 10-bed ICU providing care to medical and surgical patients. Diagnostic Services consist of Radiology, Ultrasound, CT, MRI, and Nuclear Medicine.  Other medical programs include Dialysis, Chemotherapy, Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Cardiology, Respirology, and Gastroenterology. BRHC is also a satellite campus for the University of Manitoba and the Rady Faulty of Medicine, and offers the opportunity to contribute to the teaching/mentoring of medical learners. We are a fully accredited multi-specialty facility and are currently undergoing a $110 million dollar expansion of our inpatient care facilities, expected to be completed by 2025.  Brandon also has many opportunities to join existing clinics within the city.

The primary role of the hospitalist is to care for patients presenting to the hospital requiring inpatient admission who do not have a physician with admitting privileges. In serving as the Most Responsible Physician, you will manage all care including work-up, appropriate referrals, planning discharge and liaising with the community primary care provider.

The Department of Obs/Gyne in Prairie Mountain Health is seeking two full-time Obstetrician/Gynecologists to be located in Brandon, Manitoba. Brandon currently has 5 Obstetrician/Gynecologist as well as 7 midwives.

We seek a candidate who will combine office-based practice with hospital practice, Successful Applicants must be able to work within an interdisciplinary team and function well in a high-volume environment with a commitment to provide high quality patient and family centered care. Subspecialty training or experience in minimally invasive surgery is an asset. You will have the opportunity to join one of the various clinics located throughout the city.

• Daily OR availability for the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology
• 12 single labor and delivery rooms
• 8 beds for antepartum, postop C-section, and postpartum recovery
• 24 hour epidural capability with on-site anesthesiology 24/7
• Lactation consultant is on site
• Level 2B NICU with 11 beds
• All maternity and NICU staff are trained in NRP
• Pre-assessment triage area has 4 beds for non-stress tests; regular assessments with pregnancy concerns over 22 weeks also managed here
• Full service diagnostics on site
• A variety of specialist services including 24/7 Pediatric coverage
• 1 in 6 on call
• Affiliation with the University of Manitoba offers teaching opportunities if desired
• Midwives and Family Physicians also perform deliveries in an integrated service delivery model

The successful candidate will be a General Orthopedic Surgeon with clinical expertise in hip and knee arthroplasty. Additional experience, such as hand and wrist, sports or peds is desirable. Fellowships are preferred, however, with required documentation, other training and experience will be considered.
The candidate must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary clinical environment with excellent interpersonal skills. They will be a full-time member of the department of Orthopedic Surgery and will participate in the Trauma on-call rotation at the Brandon Regional Health Centre which is typically 1/5.

The Department of Surgery at Prairie Mountain Health in Brandon, Manitoba, is seeking a full-time FRCS(C) qualified General Orthopaedic Surgeon with training and expertise in knee and shoulder arthroscopy and sports injuries.

The successful candidate would join a group of Orthopaedic surgeons to provide community and regional coverage of a full range of Orthopaedic services. Additional experience in other areas such as hip and knee arthroplasty, foot and ankle, or hand and wrist, would be welcomed. Fellowships are preferred, however, with required documentation, other training will be considered.

The candidate must be able to work in a multi-disciplinary, clinical environment with excellent interpersonal skills. They would have access initially to 1 to 2 elective OR slates per week. They will participate in the trauma on-call rotation at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, which is typically one week in five. Specialty and trauma Orthopaedic back up is available in nearby Winnipeg, a 2 hour drive from Brandon.

Brandon’s 313-bed Regional Health Centre Diagnostic Services include radiology, ultrasound, CT, and MRI as well as Nuclear medicine support. The Radiology group provides service to a large geographic catchment area. There is a wide range of specialist services available on site including Pediatrics, Obs/Gyne, general and orthopaedic Surgery, Nephrology, Psychiatry General Internal Medicine and Cardiology.

As the successful applicant, you will be responsible for examining, diagnosing, and treating urologic disorders, including surgical procedures, ordering diagnostic tests, and consulting with and providing urologic expertise to other physicians/ healthcare providers as required.

Brandon Regional Health Centre has 309 beds which includes 10 ICU beds. Brandon Regional Health Centre Diagnostic Services include radiology, ultrasound, CT, and MRI. Description

The Swan River Valley Health Centre is a 52-bed acute care facility located in Swan River. There are 36 Acute Care beds and 16 Extended Treatment (Rehab): beds. Swan Valley Health Centre offers these services: Public Health, Mental Health, Addictions medicine, Home Care, Emergency Services, Diagnostics, Chemotherapy, Dialysis, Telehealth, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Respiratory Therapy and itinerant surgical services. There are three Long term care facilities. Swan Valley Lodge – 70 beds, Swan River Valley Personal Care Home– 45 beds and Benito Health Centre – 20 beds. EMS and STARS helicopter ambulance provides trauma transportation.

The Swan Valley Health Facilities’ catchment area includes the communities of Swan River, Minitonas, Birch River, Bowsman, Camperville, Cowan, Mafeking and Benito. It also includes the RM’s of Swan River and Minitonas; Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation, Pine Creek First Nation as well as Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, with physicians providing services on site in this community.

Virden Health Centre is a 25 bed acute care facility and has two long term care facilities. The Sherwood nursing Home & Westman Nursing Home are both 50 bed long term care facilities. Services offered to the facility are Diagnostic, Emergency, Public Health, Mental Health, and Home Care Services.

Duties to include:

  • diagnose and treat the diseases, physiological disorders and injuries of patients. They provide primary contact and continuous care toward the management of patients’ health. This group performs some or all of the following duties:
  • Examine patients and take their histories, order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures and consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients’ physical and mental health
  • Prescribe and administer medications and treatments
  • Perform and assist in routine surgery
  • Provide emergency care
  • Provide acute care management
  • Advise patients and their families on health care including health promotion, disease, illness and accident prevention
  • Provide counselling and support to patients and their families on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues
  • Perform patient advocacy role
  • Co-ordinate or manage primary patient care
  • Provide continuous care to patients
  • Report births, deaths, and contagious and other diseases to governmental authorities.

The Town of Virden is located 77 kilometers west of Brandon, Manitoba’s second largest city, and 105 kilometers north of the Canada-U.S. Border.
