Our Team
Audiologists
- Members of the College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists of Manitoba (CASLPM)
- Master’s Degree or a Clinical Doctorate Degree in Audiology
- Screen, assess, identify, diagnose, and manage hearing loss, auditory processing disorders, and other auditory/balance disorders for people of all ages.
What Services are Provided?
- Assessment and screening of hearing for infants, children, and adults.
- Diagnosis of hearing loss, counseling about the type, degree and effects of the hearing loss.
- Selection/fitting of hearing aids, FM systems, and other assistive devices for children under the age of 18 through the Manitoba Children’s Hearing Aid plan.
- Follow up from school screening programs.
- Participation in Preschool Wellness Fairs.
- Auditory processing assessment (8 years and older).
- Consultation with/referral to early intervention programs, and other professionals
- Counselling on the proper use of hearing protection and the importance of protecting hearing in excessive noise.
Teacher of the Hearing Impaired
- Bachelor of Education Degree, a Manitoba Teacher’s License, and certification in Deaf Education.
- Provide home/community based intervention for preschoolers with diagnosed permanent hearing loss.
What Services are Provided?
- Provides home/community based intervention with preschoolers diagnosed with permanent hearing loss.
- Provides demonstration therapy to parents, caregivers and involved professionals along with working towards improving speech, auditory skills, receptive and expressive language and school readiness skills.
- Setting goals and providing strategies to parents of children with hearing loss.
Audiology Assistants
- Audiology Assistant Certificate
- Work in a supportive role with Audiologists
- May also perform tasks that are delegated and supervised by an Audiologist.
Newborn Hearing Screeners
- Provide hearing screening services to newborns in hospitals and in Audiology Departments.
Administrative Staff
- Serve as a point of contact for patients and referrals. Books all patient appointments.
- Supports the Audiology staff in their daily duties.
How can you access the program?
- Children do not need a referral. Parents can call to request an appointment if they have concerns.
- Adults need a referral from their doctor, nurse practitioner, or another healthcare provider.
- Services by the Teacher of the Hearing Impaired are for preschool children in the Brandon/Southern PMH areas with permanent hearing loss. Referrals must come from the Audiologist or from other professionals working with those children.
How long will you have to wait for a hearing test?
- Wait times will vary throughout the region.
- Patients are prioritized based on symptoms/ hearing issues.
- Children are typically given priority.
- All insured services are provided at no cost.
Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program (UNHS)
- 2 to 3 out of every 1000 babies are born in Canada each year with a hearing loss.
- This program helps to identify children with hearing loss or those who are at risk for hearing loss so they may receive diagnostic and intervention services early.
- The critical years for developing speech and language are 0-3 years of age.
- An undetected/untreated hearing loss can cause delayed speech-language development, social and emotional issues, and difficulties in school.

- Screening will be offered shortly after birth at:
- Brandon Regional Health Centre
- Dauphin Regional Health Centre
- Neepawa Health Centre
