Provincial and Regional officials had a chance to check out Manny, the patient manikin, as part of a learning and information tour of the Parkland Family Medicine Residency Unit in Dauphin December 17th.
Premier Brian Pallister foreground, and Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Cameron Friesen, were very interested to learn how first and second year medical residents train within Prairie Mountain Health region. Parkland Unit Director Dr. Scott Kish indicated (7) second-year and (6) first-year residents are currently training based primarily in Dauphin and Ste. Rose, with rotations in Winnipeg and Brandon. The unit, coordinated through the University of Manitoba- Max Rady- College of Medicine, recently expanded to include training stints in Swan River and Grandview, where at least two residents will take some training this academic year.
