Update on Flood Evacuations in Dauphin

Due to ongoing flooding in Dauphin, Prairie Mountain Health and Shared Health have successfully coordinated the evacuation of 54 patients from Dauphin Regional Health Centre (DRHC). All patients arrived safely at their destinations early Thursday morning, less than 24 hours after evacuation was initiated.
A Provincial Health Incident Command led by Shared Health will continue to support ongoing coordination of safe patient care and expedited recovery plans for the DRHC.
This is a tremendous collaboration of efforts between health regions, Virtual Emergency Care and Transfer Resource Service (VECTRS), Emergency Medical Services ground transport, Shared Health Patient Flow, Medical Transportation and Coordination Centre (MTCC), municipal stakeholders the City and RM of Dauphin, and partners including the Dauphin Fire Department, Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC) and our Government supports.
Patient evacuations included 53 adults and one infant, along with eight additional patients who were able to be discharged to the comfort of their own homes. The 54 patients evacuated were safely transferred to areas within the Prairie Mountain Health region, Southern Health-Sante Sud, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and Shared Health. We extend our sincere gratitude to the staff in these regions who supported without hesitation to ensure each patient’s needs were met upon arrival.
The flood also required the closure of the Emergency Department at the DRHC. A temporary Assessment and Minor Treatment Clinic is now operational out of the Dauphin Community Health Services Building, adjacent to the hospital. This clinic will be staffed 24/7 and will assess emergent and urgent concerns and manage minor illnesses and treatments.
Updated emergency department schedules will be posted on the Prairie Mountain Health website when available. Anyone experiencing an emergency is still urged to call 911.
While this is a dynamic situation, health care teams across the province are working around the clock to ensure continuity of care. The amounts of rain experienced in the province in June have been record breaking and we recognize the impact not only on our health system, but in the homes of our health care staff who continue to provide care while experiencing their own personal emergencies. We deeply commend their dedication to patients during this time.
At this time, there is no confirmed date for the reopening of the DRHC Emergency Department. We recognize the impact this has on our community and appreciate your patience as recovery efforts continue. Insurance assessors and restoration teams are working as quickly as possible to complete thorough damage assessments and determine the full scope of repairs required.
Our highest priority is ensuring patients receive safe, high-quality care. While we are committed to reopening the emergency department and welcoming patients back to their home community as soon as possible, we will only do so when the space has been fully restored, thoroughly cleaned, and is equipped to provide the level of care our patients deserve.
