DRHC Redevelopment On The Home Stretch

Construction work on the fourth and final phase of the Dauphin Regional Health Centre Redevelopment Project has continued into September. The final phase involves the total reconstruction of the front hospital entrance including the front access ramp.

As part of the construction, the public corridor between the Information Services Desk and the Diagnostic Imaging area will be barricaded and closed off for an approximate five-week period (until October 11).

During this period, the back staff hallway – past the lab and imaging departments – will see increased traffic flow as it becomes the primary corridor into Diagnostic Imaging and the rest of the hospital.

Temporary signage will be posted in an effort to direct “wayfinding” within the hospital.

The overall front entrance reconstruction associated with the final phase is anticipated to be completed by mid- November 2019.

The third phase of the $23 million project was completed in late July. The new Emergency Department and Special Care Unit opened on July 24.    The redeveloped ED is nearly three times the size of its former space with many modern enhancements.  This includes having the entire ED area securely locked down so that people need to be swiped into the unit to access it.

There is also an enclosed ambulance garage which allows patients to be moved directly from an ambulance into the emergency department without going outside or through public waiting areas.

The new back entrance also features a cul de sac quick drop off ramp and a new ramp for wheelchair access or those with mobility challenges.
