Intensive Care Physician - Brandon

Prairie Mountain Health is currently recruiting for a full time Intensive Care Physician for Brandon Regional Health Centre. The Brandon Regional Health Centre has 313 beds with and receives approximately 27,000 ER visits per year, with greater than 60% being CTAS 1-3. Our 10-bed ICU provides care to medical and surgical patients. Diagnostic Services consist of Radiology, Ultrasound, CT, MRI, and Nuclear Medicine. Internal Medicine programs include Dialysis, Chemotherapy, Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Cardiology, Respirology, Gastroenterology and Radiation Oncology. There are approximately 100 physicians, both family physicians and specialists, with admitting privileges to the health centre, and numerous medical clinics located throughout the city.

Employment Status:                     1.0 EFT Permanent

 - Must hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, with preference of Internal Medicine certification, and a minimum of 12 months of intensive care training.

- Current eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba


The successful candidate would be a contributing member to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Services would include:
 - Minimum one week  per month on-call / onsite service
 - Consultative services to Prairie Mountain Health Physicians when necessary

Prairie Mountain Health covers an area of 66, 201 square kilometers on the southwestern side of the Province of Manitoba with a population of 160,720. The region includes 115 towns and communities including the city of Brandon which is the referral centre for a catchment of nearly 200, 000,  14 First Nations communities, and four French language communities.

Prairie Mountain Health employs over 8,500 people and operates 22 acute care/transitional facilities and 42 long-term care facilities. There are 170 primary care physicians and 67 specialists providing medical services in the area.

Recently ranked #6 in MoneySense “Canada’s Best Places to Live 2012”, Brandon is a thriving city with a population of over 53 000, located 200 km west of Winnipeg on the Trans-Canada Highway. It is large enough to supply all the retail, medical, educational and cultural needs on a daily basis and small enough to avoid high costs of living and lengthy commutes. Brandon University has a significant reputation in music, general arts and science programs. Riding Mountain National Park is one hour north of the city, and the Peace Gardens are situated on the Manitoba/North Dakota border just over an hour to the south. There are numerous other recreational areas in western Manitoba. Dubbed “the Host City”, Brandon’s enthusiastic volunteer base land many provincial, national and international events. The “Wheat City” is an excellent community in which to raise children or retire.

Renumeration:   Compensation is as per the Doctors Manitoba/ Manitoba Health Agreement. The current daily stipend for 24 hours is $5,054.74.
