The Brandon Regional Health Centre (BRHC) renovations on the west side of the fourth floor of the General Centre is moving along and is expected to be complete in May 2019. Renovations on the east side of the fourth floor finished in October 2018. At that time the east side was opened to patients and work began on the west side.
To date, electrical and plumbing work is almost complete. Drywall is up, and all of the rooms have been primed, along with one coat of paint. The wall protection and bumper have been installed in addition to the headwalls in the patient rooms. Ceiling grid, lighting and ductwork are complete. Flooring installation has started and is about 30% finished. Cabinets in the patient rooms and bathroom vanities are currently being fitted.
Once complete, the fourth floor will have seven single rooms, two of them being specialized bariatric rooms, three double rooms and six rooms with three beds. This will result in 31 beds on the fourth floor for patient medical care.
In addition to patient rooms, there will be a tub and shower room, patient and staff lounges, medical room along with other general duty spaces and offices.
The west side renovations of the fourth floor are the 4th and final phase of the BRHC Redevelopment project. The first phase of the project saw the completion of the Pediatric Ward now located on the second- floor. The second phase was the fifth-floor medical bed expansion. Phase three was the east side of the fourth-floor followed by the current phase 4 of the west side.
When all phases are complete, there will be an increase in medical beds from 48 to 60 with washrooms that will now be wheelchair accessible, along with expanded and improved areas for patients, staff and family support.
