Qualifications:  

 

- Must hold or be eligible for fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada
- Must hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba
- Must provide proof of CMPA coverage prior to starting practice-
- Experience as a rural General Surgeon offering a broad range of surgical procedures would be an asset 

   
   
     

Compensation:

 

  Compensation is derived from fee-for-service billing as per the current Manitoba physician’s manual negotiated in the Master Agreement between the Minister of Health and Doctors Manitoba
- fees and will be dependent on volume of services provided.
- Surgical on-call stipend is compensated at $481.79/24 hour period
     
     
Description:  

Prairie Mountain Health is currently seeking a General Surgeon to practice in the city of Dauphin. The successful applicant will perform elective General Surgery procedures including upper and lower GI endoscopy as well as some minor plastic, orthopedic and obstetric/gynecologic (including C-section) procedures. The successful applicant will also be required to participate in an on-call rota for General Surgery that is approximately 1 in 3.  The successful applicant will also participate in a rota providing itinerant endoscopy and minor surgical services to the community of Swan River. This position offers an attractive amount of OR time with manageable on-call volumes.

Dauphin is the site of the University of Manitoba Parkland Family Medicine Residency Program and provides an opportunity for teaching.   Dauphin Regional Health Centre is Prairie Mountain Health’s second largest facility and serves the Northern half of the region, covering a geographical area of 18,891 km and a population of over 40,000.  The 90 bed Regional Health Centre has 12 surgical beds.  Current Diagnostic Services include general radiology, ultrasound and CT with MRI available in 2017.  The successful applicants will have an office practice in the community for seeing consultations and follow-ups.

The community of Dauphin is situated between the Riding Mountain National Park and the Duck Mountain Provincial Park. This provides an abundance of recreational opportunities and is an ideal location to provide residents with year round outdoor activities such as golfing, boating, fishing, hunting, skiing and hiking. Parkland recreation complex offers curling, hockey, figure skating as well as excellent aquatic center. Dauphin Country fest community cinema provides 4 movie options and is located right next door to the recreation facility. We are home to the famous Dauphin Country music festival as well as Canada’s longest running Ukrainian festival. There are a number of excellent schools with two immersion programs; French and Ukrainian as well as post-secondary opportunities at Assiniboine Community College and Campus Manitoba.

- Contingent on a 2 year Return of service agreement, PMH will provide $15,000 for resettlement of the successful candidate and will apply for a provincial specialist recruitment and resettlement grant on the Physician’s behalf (which may provide an additional $20,000 maximum based on availability of funds).
