National Hockey League forward for the Columbus Blue Jackets Matt Calvert, his wife Courtney and son Kasey joined members of the Matt Calvert Charity Shootout Committee in presenting a cheque to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for $50,216. The money will go towards the Palliative Care Unit at Brandon Regional Health Centre in honour of Matt’s grandfather, Melvin Calvert, and Donna Hamm, his close friend’s mother, who both passed away last year. The money will be used to purchase new furnishings for the rooms to make it more comfortable for patients and their families.
Funds raised came from the Matt Calvert Charity Shootout, Matt’s first charity golf tournament in Brandon held on June 22 at the Wheat City golf course. Matt and his family come home to Brandon in the summers, and he hopes to make this an annual event.
Heartfelt thanks to Matt and his family, event organizers, sponsors, golfers and everyone who supported this tournament.
